  • Overview

At SolarWinds we’re focused on making easy-to-use software for IT professionals. The UX designer is an important member of the engineering team and designs user interactions and interfaces for our products.

Are you passionate about the importance of optimizing and creating intuitive user experiences that are engaging, delightful, and informed by users’ needs? Do you believe that effective user experiences come from analyzing findings from different research sources? Do you thrive in ever-changing environments and revel in the idea of embracing and influencing the change in processes and informing product roadmaps? Are you interested in working with a team of extremely talented UX designers and researchers as your peers? If so, then SolarWinds might be the right place for you. We are looking for a Lead UX Designer to join our team to design engaging experiences that meet SolarWinds’ business goals. We hope you can help define what we should be solving, not just how we solve it by working closely with product managers and other stakeholders and by leveraging user data.

    Responsibilities

    • Work with product managers and other stakeholders to discover and understand user needs and requirements to turn high level product requirements into workflows and designs.
    • Lead design efforts on large projects.
    • Create detailed user interface (UI) mockups and prototypes
    • Draft UX deliverables (workflows, early conceptual designs, fixes to issues seen in usability, mockups, etc)
    • Take complex, technical problems and make an attractive, easy-to-use UI.
    • Design solutions to usability issues in products quickly – in minutes and hours, not days and weeks
    • Rapidly iterate and launch follow-up usability tests or studies – thoughtfully incorporating user, developer, and product manager feedback into design revisions.
    • Share and communicate designs with cross-functional, worldwide teams.
    • Participate in business and UI reviews with multi-disciplinary product teams.
    • Champion the user while defining user experience opportunities and identifying use cases
    • Share knowledge and mentor junior designers.

    Qualifications

What do we expect you to know/have?

    • 6+ years of experience working on UX for software products, web applications, and/or complex websites.
    • Be a collaborative team player with excellent verbal and written communication skills. A sense of humor.
    • Proven ability to translate user insights into design.
    • Ability to think strategically about user needs and business impact.
    • Strong visual design aesthetic and ability.
    • A “no project too big or small” attitude.
    • A portfolio that includes work examples and stories to share.

The ideal candidate is comfortable working in Sketch, Axure, InVision, Photoshop, Illustrator, and has HTML/CSS experience. Has knowledge of current interaction and UI trends and technology; is creative and is able to drive design efforts on large projects and able to validate designs with internal and external stakeholders.
