    The Role

    We are seeking a high-energy, execution-oriented Director of MSP Business Applications from our office in either Durham, NC or Austin, TX to define, manage, and deliver the roadmap for business-critical enterprise applications.  This is a hands-on role, leading a team of architects, product, and project managers. 

    This role will have a “seat at the table” with the SolarWinds MSP executive management team and report directly to the Vice President of SolarWinds Enterprise Applications.  You must have a technical background and be a creative thinker, passionate about enabling the business, and maniacally focused on communication, execution, and delivery.

    Primary Responsibilities

    Though project delivery and support is managed through a matrixed relationship to shared development and QA teams, you should have a technical background with significant experience directly leading technical delivery teams.  In this role, you will be expected to:

    • Drive the vision and roadmap for the key back-end systems that run the business
    • Manage and align business stakeholders, establishing and controlling scope, setting the project schedule, identifying, reporting, and mitigating risks
    • Effectively manage the key operational elements of the organization, including but not limited to: strategic planning and execution, resource planning and team meetings
    • Build and maintain relationships with peers inside and outside the organization to ensure strong cross-functional collaboration and connection with the CIO and IT organization
    • Lead annual and ongoing portfolio planning process
    • Create and maintain appropriate governance structures
    • Educate and provide thought leadership for harmonizing and streamlining processes across the organization
    • Program-manages key IT initiatives within the organization, providing thorough and timely status reporting
    • Defines, documents and communicates business requirements and business processes
    • Build a high-performance team through appropriate setting of stretch goals and ongoing coaching
    • Build and delivery clear and compelling executive-level presentations through data manipulation, analysis and PowerPoint


    Technologies and Methodologies

    A variety of technologies are employed to enable our business and our MSP customer’s success.  The ideal candidate has expertise in following, or comparable technologies:

    • Digital marketing and demand generation – Marketo
    • Customer Relationship Management – Salesforce.com (Sales Cloud and Service Cloud)
    • System Integration – Service oriented architectures, utilizing .NET framework
    • Billing – Zuora subscription management and billing
    • Accounting – NetSuite
    • Custom-built .NET applications
    • SW development planning and bug tracking – Jira/Confluence
    • eCommerce and customer self-service
    • Agile development methodologies


    • Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, or relevant technical background
    • 15+ years of progressive work experience in enterprise application delivery
    • Past experience as a development manager, architect, or service deliver executive
    • Exceptional stakeholder management skills, experienced and comfortable engaging at the tactical and executive level
    • Strong executive presence, with the ability to coordinate, communicate, and manager at all levels in the organization
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including packaging communications in succinct PowerPoint presentations
    • Willingness to travel as required (2-3 weeks per quarter, depending on location and project teams)
    • Ability to work remotely, manage stakeholders and team members in multiple locations
