As an Intermediate Sales Engineer you will provide prospects, sales staff, channel partners and resellers with technical product advice during sales discussions. This position requires the ability to effectively perform detailed online technical deep-dive demonstrations, during which you must effectively promote product features, answer audience questions and clearly ascertain the prospect’s needs and requirements. As an Intermediate Sales Engineer you must demonstrate expert knowledge of the entire SolarWinds’ Systems and Network Management product portfolio. You will be responsible for providing prospects with assistance during the product evaluation cycle. This will include responding to technical queries via email, online remote assistance, troubleshooting and solving moderately complex pre-sales support problems. Qualified applicants will have a minimum of 5 years technical product support or relevant pre-sales experience.


  • Demonstrates and implements product customization in lab and prospect’s environment.
  • Ability to customize prospect’s environment to meet all technical requirements to satisfy proof of concept.
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting techniques on all SolarWinds products. Identify and isolate issues through log analysis.
  • Work closely with Product Management team communicating product issues, customer feedback and feature/functionality requests.
  • Design and document product deployments in accordance with best practices.
  • Answer and assist Sales Engineering team with technology specific questions/issues.
  • Solid understanding of market landscape with exceptional ability to position products.
  • Assist sales reps to offer product solutions that solve business needs and overcome challenges.      


  • 3 years of experience with with Networking, Application, Virtualization and/or Storage technologies.
  • Knowledgeable in all SolarWinds products--Ability to relate product functionality/feature set(s) to resolve pain points in IT environments. Ability to perform advanced troubleshooting techniques.
  • SE team “Go To” person for at least one product.
  • Advanced production configuration.
  • Advanced scalability discussion and hands-on implementations.      


  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant Business or Computing discipline or 3+ years experience in related field.
  • Advanced knowledge of and min 3 years experience with SAN, NAS, DAS including at least 1 among (EMC, NetApp, Dell, IBM, HP)
  • Excellent knowledge of Virtualization Technologies and platforms including VMware ESX/vSphere/vCentre.
  • Substantial experience in Windows 2012 and higher and SQL 2012 and higher.
  • Substantial experience with TCP/IP based networks and a fundamental understanding of Network, Application and Storage Management protocols including SMI-S, SNMP, SNMP Traps, Syslogs, ICMP and WMI.
  • Must have good reasoning and technical troubleshooting skills.
  • CCNA – CCNP certification or equivalent 3+ years of networking experience.
  • MCSA OR MCSE or working towards.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication and presentation skills are critical for this position.
  • A good mix of technical ability, sales and customer interaction skills are required.
